Work in Progress
Ok, so I made a mistake. When I was a child, I learned to play several musical instruments and I enjoyed playing music and writing instrumental songs. I started college in the engineering department, but I was also involved in the music school having a partial scholarship in vocal music. I bought my first synthesizer, a Yamaha DX7, with the idea that I wanted to design instruments. Then I began having more enjoyment out of designing sounds and soon I was hooked. I bought more new and vintage keyboards, and started playing in bands. I had written quite a few songs with a co-writer and received some attention from labels about our songs, but after a short stint with a CCM band, that all ended. I had also written a large amount of instrumental music, but it all sounded like movie background music, so at the time I had no idea on what to do with it and basically had no direction on what to do with a music career.
By the time I left college, I had almost completely quit playing music and joined the business world in information technology.
Jump ahead a few years, and I made another mistake. Lightning struck my house leaving everything intact except for a few electronics and nearly all of my music gear. The insurance company covered it completely and I was able to buy all new keyboard and sound equipment. I enjoyed playing it for awhile, but again I really had no direction on what to do with music in my life.
Now, I'm 44, and have spent my entire career in the information technology field and I'm wondering what would have happened if I had taken some chances and spent more time doing what I enjoy doing. I've decided that I'm not going to make that mistake again and I'm focusing on what I haven't done for the past 25 years. I'm self-employed with my own software business and now I can define how I spend my time balancing between music and technology. I hope to be able to swing the balances more to music and not make a third mistake.
Q: Where did you grow up?
A: I grew up and currently live in Chattanooga, Tennessee just a couple of hours outside of Nashville.
