Bio

Lydia Ashton has never seen her music as a centerpiece, but rather as a conduit to touch the innermost place of a person's soul. She goes on to say that she loves when every aspect of a project works together to create a whole, and that she sees her music as one of the supporting actors. "The music is there to enhance the emotion of what is happening on screen. When done beautifully, the score will most often go unnoticed. It is part of the bigger picture, and rarely begs for attention".

Lydia started writing music before she could write words. Growing up in Sweden, she has a rich heritage of European folk music, which tends to shine through in many of her works. Some of the countries in which her concert music has been performed are Italy, England, Slovenia, Sweden and the US.

Once she scored her first film, her focus turned toward writing for film and TV. "I loved how a group of people, each one doing what they do best, would come together and create something amazing - something which would touch people all over the world" she says.

Lydia actively writes for TV, film, and several music production libraries. She has had hundreds of placements in a variety of TV shows spanning multiple networks such as NBC, ABC, CBS and FOX. Some of the shows that have used her music are The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Dr. OZ Show and The Nate Berkus Show.

Bio

Composer Lydia Ashton knew at an early age that her passion in life was music. “I saw music touch people from all walks of life and learned that music can evoke any emotion. It is a language which speaks directly to the heart, and I wanted to learn that language” says Ashton.

Growing up she studied music in her homeland Sweden with a focus on performing. Her instruments were violin, viola and piano. When she married in 1997, she moved to the USA and shortly thereafter turned her focus from performing to composing. In 2002 she graduated with a Bachelors in Music Composition Technology. During the years that followed, she wrote concert music that was performed in England, Italy, Slovenia and the US.

Ashton scored her first film in 2006 and fell in love with writing for picture. Since then her focus has turned from writing concert music to film scoring, even though she still does both.

Her experience working with real orchestras is a great asset whether the film calls for midi orchestration, real orchestra or a mix. “I compose custom music for films. There is significant value added to any project when each element - music, words, picture - is chosen deliberately and executed with care. I make sure that the director's vision is realized”.

Lydia Ashton writes music for Studio 51 (Harpo Productions) as well as Studio 51 Music (a music library which will launch during spring of 2010).
